H2 has spent much of summer 2021 presenting its latest sector insights at a number of industry conferences online.
In May, H2 teamed up with partners IBIA to unpick the current health of tennis betting for the newly-formed International Tennis Integrity Association in the lead up to the return of the Wimbledon Championships. The online tennis betting market has grown substantially at a ten-year (2011-20) CAGR of 28% - tripling its share of the overall online sports betting market from 3.3% to 9.7%.
In June, H2 partnered with Burlywood Capital to deliver the keynote at the Global Esports Virtual Forum - organised for private investors as part of the Global Partnership of Family Offices (GPFO) network. While growing fast, Esports betting represents just 1.0% of all online betting activity currently, or 2.1% if you exclude horse racing.
Director David Henwood then spoke alongside René Jansen, Chairman of the KSA Netherlands Gaming Authority, to representatives from over 20 countries at the EGBA Regulators Summer Conference. Europe remains the showcase region for global online gambling growth - though of particular note is mobile which H2 now forecasts will grow at 16% CAGR - to represent two-thirds of all European online wagers by 2026.
In July, H2 provided the headline presentation to the DOGA (Danish Online Gambling Association) Afternoon Talk outlining the impact of the 20 to 28% tax rate change to leading operators across the Danish market. Lead Analyst Ed Birkin and David Henwood then co-presented an exclusive H2 webinar for the GREF (Gaming Regulators European Forum) – speaking to regulators from Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Hungary Ireland, Latvia, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia and the UK on current trends in the different channelling rates across the EU27 & UK markets.
Finally, H2 teamed up with media partners Clarion Gaming to lead the live ICE365 Netherlands iGaming Market Webinar - watch here. David Henwood presented alongside representatives from NOGA (Netherlands Online Gaming Association), Kalff Katz & Franssen and EveryMatrix to offer H2’s predictions on pre- and post-market growth following its planned launch on 1 October 2021. Online gambling will treble over the period 2019-26 - from €0.5bn to €1.5bn GGR - with the Dutch channelling rate shifting from 15.5% to 81.8% onshore over the same time frame.
Looking back on the programme, David Henwood said: “We’re normally so head down in the data or some form of deeper sector analysis, it’s actually been really good to spend the summer inputting into the very latest discussions on some of the hot topics around at the moment in the industry. We’re very conscious we collate a lot of sector insight within H2 and to have the chance to share our thoughts and findings to a wider platform of thought leaders has been refreshing. We spent a lot of time tracking the sector, now we’re focusing increasingly on commentating on it, and hopefully helping to facilitate industry development and maturation at the same time.”
